DAY TOUR ITINERARIES
Set itinerary Day Tours 10.00am - 4.00pm
Anglesey (Ynys Môn) is a very beautiful island steeped in history - Neolithic tombs, holy wells and medieval castles are just a small part of its rich archaeology. We provide a range of Day Tours during the spring and summer months (and at special request throughout the year) for all those with an interest in the Celtic past.
Set Tour Itinerary No. 1
Our multi-period set tour itinerary introduces a range of site types and incorporates archaeology from the prehistoric to the late medieval period. Starting in prehistory at Bryn Celli Ddu, Llanddaniel Fab - an impressive Neolithic burial chamber set within a wider ritual landscape - we move forward in time to Din Silwy (Bwrdd Arthur) a large Iron Age hillfort with evidence of Romano-British use. As well as its archaeology, Din Silwy boasts magnificent and extensive views to the sea and mountains beyond, and also provides the habitat for a rich variety of flora and fauna. After time for lunch at Beaumaris, we visit the town's fine stone castle built by Edward 1 on the banks of the Menai Strait. Our day's excursion continues with a trip to Penmon to explore the twelfth-century church with its fine sculpted crosses, thirteenth-century conventual buildings, dovecote and the Holy Well of St. Seiriol. We return via Castell Aberlleiniog, an eleventh century motte and bailey earthwork, which also played a part in the Civil War of the seventeenth century.
For those who have an interest in a particular period in history we offer tours that focus on the prehistoric, Roman or medieval archaeology of Anglesey.
Our Day Tour prices include entry fees and travel costs to venues and destinations set out in the itinerary. To avoid disappointment bookings must be made in advance. Please see our Tour Dates Page for details.
